Your pet has undergone a dental procedure and is now being discharged for continued care at your home. Your job during the recovery period at home is just as important as the procedure that was performed. As part of your pet's post-operative care, Sylvan Veterinary Hospital recommends you closely adhere to the following instructions:
- Activity Restriction: Please keep your pet from running, playing or jumping for the next 24 hours following their teeth cleaning. They can resume their normal activities tomorrow afternoon. If they had any other type of procedure, please follow those specific restrictions.
- Feeding: Please limit tonight's meal to half of your pets normal portion. If his mouth seems sensitive, soften his food by soaking it in warm water for 10 minutes before feeding, or feed a canned diet. If your pet isn't interested in eating, seems nauseous, or vomits please don't offer any more food until the next morning. If they still won't eat please call Sylvan Veterinary Hospital for further instructions.
- After Care: The best thing you can do after a teeth cleaning is to follow up with oral care at home by brushing your pets teeth. Greenies and dental chews help, but brush is by far the best thing you can do. There is a pet specific tooth paste so please don't use human tooth paste. Daily brushing is ideal, but even if you can aim for just a few days a week that can make a huge difference in their oral health. If you have any specific questions regarding brushing your pets teeth, please speak with one of our technicians for further information. The Veterinary Oral Health Counsel has a great wealth of information on their website. Check out their website at http://www.vohc.org/
Thank you for ensuring Sylvan Veterinary Hospital with your pet's care, and we look forward to servicing your pet in the future.
